To re-purpose and transform two existing Toronto and Vancouver retail locations into an active, multi-functional runner’s lounge. Each lounge required training, retail, refreshment and iPod music areas that would support the Nike + iRun experience. Design and fabrication needed to happen within a short timeframe and on a tight budget.
Site surveys were conducted immediately to measure and pinpoint each location’s unique requirements. A space plan was then created and a minimalist approach was taken to reduce clutter and allow for a multi-purposed environment. With consideration given to budget restraints, graphics were chosen as an integral design element to help define interior space and large message text was designed to express movement and brand attitudes. Specific focal points, such as the iPod music bar, retail and lounge areas became multi functional allowing for a variety of uses. All of the fabricated elements were designed to allow for a one-day installation to meet the lounge opening day deadlines.
The end result was a warm, inviting space that enticed runners to embrace the unique energy and flavor of the Nike + iRun movement. Lounge openings attracted huge crowds and runners continue to migrate to the lounges to enhance their running experience and to network with other runners.
